Movies of Summer 2012

by on 07/10/2012

I have listed my the movies that I have seen this summer and in order of my favorites.

8. Battleship

Battleship was pretty much what I expected. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great. It was also pretty much a mixture of the Transformers movies. Nothing too special in my opinion except for the opening scene that has one golden moment.

7. Snow White and the Huntsmen

This wasn’t a bad movie. It was actually pretty good but it was brought down by Kristen Stewart. It bothered me that the “life of the forest” (or whatever she was supposed to be) is someone who rarely smiles and doesn’t show an emotion that isn’t brooding.

6. Men in Black 3

MIB 3 was enjoyable. Not much else. I was entertained and I loved all the actors but the story was bland. I could probably watch this again. As much as I like Josh Brolin, I kinda wished Tommy Lee Jones was in it more. That being said, Josh Brolin has Tommy Lee Jones down.

5. The Amazing Spider-Man

This is a great summer flick. I wished it had been more adventurous though. It wasn’t too different than the other ones. I enjoyed Andrew Garfield’s performance.

4. Seeking a Friend For the End of the World

Wow. I was not prepared for this movie. It wasn’t really a comedy. I guess I should have realized a movie about the end of the world was gonna be depressing. It also had a nice romance story though. It almost brought the man-tears. There’s a theme of a fear of dying alone (a fear I definitely have) which made it seem a  bit more realistic.

3. The Avengers

Avengers didn’t particularly surprise me but it didn’t disappoint. What did surprise me was that I liked Mark Ruffalo more than Edward Norton as the Hulk. I hope to see more collaboration between Hulk and Iron Man. They are an awesome duo.

2. Prometheus

I wasn’t looking forward to this until about 2 weeks before it came out. I loved it, but it has faults. Mainly being the characters. Some characters could have been fleshed out a lot more and some were just acted poorly (Idris Elba, sorry but I’m looking at you. I still love you). Micheal Fassbender was superb and gave a chilling performance. Some scenes had me about to close my eyes. All in all, a great movie.

1. Moonrise Kingdom

I had been anticipating this movie for a long time. As soon as I saw that Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Bruce “mah-effin” Willis, and Jason Schwartzman were gracing the same screen I knew it was a must see. The kids also gave great performances. This is a lighthearted tale and it came to my town at a perfect time. This is a great summer movie. Wes Anderson did not disappoint.
